Bwindi National Forest
ABOUT
Refused entry into Kigali, Rwanda; forced to fly to Kampala; and then drive 10 hours west across all of Uganda, we finally arrived at Bwindi National Forest. All to witness the mountain gorilla. The arduous journey? Worth it.
Uganda has one of the largest populations of the 880 mountain gorillas still living on earth. Pictured here is a silverback from the Akunda family, which, close up, is an incredible sight to see.
Thanks to these gorillas, tourism is blossoming, making the more accessible villages benefit, relative to other, more remote ones. Yet, across the board, access to many of man's most basic needs remain stunningly scarce.
The decision to participate in any cause is an intangible and instinctive one…..and so it is with mine. I have decided to sell a private collection of tribal masks I've collected thru my travels over the last 20 years.
A percentage of the sale proceeds will go to St Mathew’s Nursery & Primary School, based in the Kayonza-Kanungu district of southwest Uganda. I am personally friends with Moses Bashaija, Head Master, and hope to visit soon in order to see the progress of our contributions.
Thanks in advance for your support!
